It’s been a tough time for everyone this last year. There’s no denying that we all feel like we need a vacation, but sometimes we think we can’t afford to go abroad. So we stay in our own borders, content to not know what’s out there.

Throw that to the wind! There are plenty of places we Americans can travel to without breaking the bank, and with the world slowly opening back up again there are lots of options that are hungry for tourists. We have options open to us every day, and this list is in no way definitive. Think of it more as an inspiration board, a way to spark ideas for places you could go. When you have shortlisted a few places in mind, make sure to go through the comprehensive travel guide (such as this Majorca Travel Guide, for instance) of that particular place, to have a fair idea of what to pack and what to expect.

India, Nepal, And Indonesia

It may seem strange to group these all together, but there’s a reason for this. They’re all great countries for long-term travel, i.e if you’re planning on staying somewhere for a while. Yes, parts of India are being hit hard at the moment with Covid-19, but other parts are much safer and still make good choices for those wanting to scratch that travel itch.

At the moment, travel to all of these is restricted, however. But when the doors do open, they will likely be cheap and dependable, as they were before the world locked down entirely. With the dollar still reasonably strong in the exchange rate, these all make sense as great options for when the doors open.

Southeast Asia

Similar to the ones above, these haven’t fully opened up yet, but there are options to allow people to book in for when they do. Consistently cheap, with a strong dollar exchange, and a lot of fun to explore, these countries as a whole have a lot to offer for those seeking something different.

Mexico

Yes, Mexico. The most common vacation spot for Americans looking to go abroad is still open, and while it isn’t as cheap as the above option it’s still a good value choice for those in the mid-range market. Mexico is home to a wide variety of tourist attractions, including Chichen Itza, Doj Ojos Cenote, and Xcaret park. But you should also be aware that Mexico is known to have a rich nightlife scene. If you plan on vacationing and partying here soon, you can visit blogs such as Digital Nomad Couple (visit this page) to look at some of the best and safe clubs in Mexico, including places such as Tulum.

Furthermore, many individuals not only decide to vacation here, but due to the reduced cost of living, they also seem to relocate here as ex-pats. With delicious cuisine and stunning landscapes, it’s difficult to argue against the decision. In addition, couples pick the nation while reserving luxurious Hotels in Sea of Cortez or elsewhere to celebrate special events.

The Czech Republic, Romania, and Hungary

Another three groups, but this time it’s due to their reliability for backpackers. Those who have a cheaper option in mind and want to explore on foot may find these European options good bang for their buck.

Portugal

Not listed above as it isn’t exactly backpacker budget-friendly, but this country is still a lot cheaper than most others in the Western European zone. If you’re someone who’s into water sports such as kite surfing (get in touch with companies like Kite Control to know more regarding this), this place could be a good choice for that. A great choice for those looking to jump to the other side of the world. And speaking of…

Morocco And Egypt

Grouped together due to their value, these locations are great for those looking for a truly unique experience. You’ll need a negative PCR test from the last 72 hours for Egypt, but Morocco needs some patience as you need to wait for it to open again.

Right now, a lot of the travel game is based on waiting, but prices will be cheap regardless. But there are some options you can go with now, as long as you take the proper precautions ahead of time. You can always save up for other options later on. Travel can be expensive. It’s just one of the realities of life. But that doesn’t mean that we should give up on it, even after everything that has happened. Now is, in fact, a great time to spread our wings across the world. So don’t be afraid – take that step and enjoy those cheap travels.
